bio

Chris Worden is a cyborg musician, moving fluidly between the worlds of the electronic and the acoustic. He is equal parts performer, composer and engineer, making him a sought-after collaborator in a wide range of musical contexts.

As an avid upright and electric bassist, Chris takes pride in his ability to play a strong supportive role with a focus on complementing his fellow performers and serving the artistic goals of the musical situation. When called upon, however, he is also a dynamic and virtuosic improviser. Chris has been graced with the opportunity to play bass with artists like Ingrid Jensen, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, Wynton Marsalis, Peter Bernstein, Maria Schneider, and more.

As a computer musician, Chris uses the laptop attached to his hip to convert his performance abilities and music theory knowledge into complex and engaging compositions. This is facilitated by his skills in recording, synthesis, programming and mixing using tools like MaxMSP, Studio One and Ableton Live. He is currently employed as an audio engineer at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he has been further honing these technical skills.

In addition to electronic and cerebral solo compositions, Chris is particularly interested in collaborating with singer-songwriters. His main artistic focus is on his alternative/electronic duo blue pilot, with songwriter and trumpeter Eric Frost.

Chris received his BA in Music and Computing in the Arts from Cornell University in 2019, and an MM in Jazz Performance and Music Theory at New England Conservatory of Music in 2021. These studies ignited an ongoing passion for researching and teaching music theory.

As a human, Chris likes black tea, video games, reading about architecture/urban design and spending time with his amazing partner, Alina, and medium-sized mystery pup, Ellie. They are currently based in Boston, MA.
